the.leanmarketeer ("we," "us," "our") respects your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect when you visit theleanmarketeer.com, why we collect it, and what your rights are.

This site is operated from New Zealand and this policy is written to comply with the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020. If you're visiting from the EU/UK or California, see the additional notes near the end of this policy.

1. Who we are

the.leanmarketeer is a personal brand and content site operated by Sarah Williams.

2. What information we collect

When you download a free guide We collect your email address (and, if the form asks for it, your first name and last name) through our guide opt-in forms. This is provided directly by you.

When you contact us If you use the contact form or email us directly, we collect whatever information you include — typically your name, email address, and the content of your message.

When you browse the site We use website analytics via HubSpot to understand how visitors use the site. This may include your approximate location (city/country level, from IP address), device and browser type, pages visited, and how you arrived at the site. This data is aggregated and not used to identify you personally.

Cookies The site may use cookies for basic functionality and analytics. You can disable cookies in your browser settings, though some parts of the site may not work as intended if you do.

We do not collect payment information directly — if that changes (e.g. paid guides or consultancy bookings), payment is handled by a third-party processor and we do not store your card details.

3. Why we collect it

We use your information to:

  • Send you the guide you requested, and occasional related content or new guide announcements, if you've opted in
  • Respond to enquiries made through the contact form
  • Understand how people use the site, so we can improve it
  • Meet legal obligations, where applicable

We do not sell your information to third parties. We do not use your data for anything beyond what's described above.

4. Who we share it with

We share information only with the service providers that help us run the site and email list, including:

  • HubSpot — stores your email address if you've subscribed or downloaded a guide, and manages our email sends
  • HubSpot — processes anonymised/aggregated visitor data
  • HubSpot — hosts the website

These providers only use your information to provide the service to us, under their own privacy and security obligations. We don't share your information with anyone else unless required by law.

5. Where your data is stored

Depending on the tools listed above, your data may be stored on servers outside New Zealand (for example, in the US, where many email and analytics platforms host data). These providers are generally required to maintain privacy and security standards at least equivalent to New Zealand's, but if you have concerns about this, contact us and we can confirm specifics for the tools in use.

6. How long we keep it

We keep your email address for as long as you remain subscribed to our list. If you unsubscribe, your details are removed from active use (though some platforms retain a suppression record to ensure we don't accidentally re-contact you). Contact form enquiries are kept only as long as needed to resolve the enquiry, unless there's a reason to keep them longer (e.g. an ongoing client relationship).

7. Your rights

Under the Privacy Act 2020, you have the right to:

  • Ask what personal information we hold about you
  • Ask us to correct it if it's wrong
  • Ask us to delete it
  • Unsubscribe from emails at any time, using the unsubscribe link in any email we send

8. Children's privacy

This site isn't directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 16.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy occasionally, for example if we add a new tool or service to the site. The "last updated" date at the top will reflect the most recent change. Significant changes will be noted here or communicated to subscribers where appropriate.

10. Additional notes for EU/UK and California visitors

EU/UK visitors (GDPR): Where GDPR applies, our legal basis for processing your email address is your consent (for guide downloads and email sign-ups) or our legitimate interest in responding to enquiries you've sent us. You have the same rights as described in Section 7, plus the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

California visitors (CCPA): We do not sell personal information. You have the right to know what information we hold and to request its deletion, as described in Section 7.
